So this is a relatively easy trail that leads to the Eastern most point of the island. It's highly popular and you have families with kids, strollers, and dogs all along it. It's a popular place for locals and tourists. The paved road will take you all the way up to Makapuu Point that overlooks the lighthouse. Most just go up and take the same path back.

There are some nice scenic views along the way of the coast line. One of the better views is looking along the windward coast and also seeing the pair of islands across from Makapuu beach.

If you want to add a little more you can hike up the ridge and descend to the North scenic look out. Once you hit Makapuu point. Look back and you'll see some bunkers a top the opposite hill. Head towards there and you'll find some paths to follow. I ended up going towards the right and following some pipes up to the top. There's an interesting path that goes along the coast. It's a very short climb and descent. If you want to make it slightly more challenging start at the scenic lookout and hike up the ridge, and take a nice stroll down.

On the way up, there a bunch of parts where you can trail off. This is one. I wanted to go to the further point but it didn't seem to safe.

My roommate C.J. Almost there.

The lighthouse! The path this is closed due to danger of falling rock. Fortunately there is well worn side trail that bypasses the gate. :-)

The view of Makapuu Beach from the top.

These are the two bird sanctuaries.

On my way back down, I saw this group of climbers.

Gotta love how clear the water is in Hawaii!
